Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. has entered into an agreement with the Maxwell Football Club (MFC) to be the 2012 Presenting Sponsor of the Chuck Bednarik Award presented to the Outstanding Collegiate Defensive Player of the Year.
Founded in 1935, the Maxwell Football Club is the oldest football organization of its kind in America. The MFC presents several of the most prestigious awards in the football world at both the college and professional levels. The Chuck Bednarik Award was established in 1995 in honor of Philadelphia Eagles legend Chuck Bednarik. Nicknamed "Concrete Charlie," Bednarik was a stand out on both offense and defense during his 14 year NFL career. He was selected to the All Pro team 10 times and is generally recognized as the last of the true "60 Minute Men" as a starter on both offense and defense. As a collegiate player, Bednarik was a two time All American at the University of Pennsylvania and was selected as the 1948 Maxwell Award as the Outstanding Player in College Football. He is a member of both the College and NFL Hall of Fame. Pat Fitzgerald (Northwestern) was the first winner of the Bednarik Award in 1995.
"Many of our guests are serious collegiate sports fans and we offer a variety of collegiate apparel, décor, rockers, food, cookware and accessories related to their favorite schools," said Associate Marketing Manager Christine Poss. "This year, as we announce our MFC sponsorship, we think our guests will really cheer about their opportunity to win one of three trips for two to Atlantic City in March 2013 for the Maxwell Football Club National Awards Gala. In addition, the Maxwell Club is offering a first time membership to Cracker Barrel guests at a substantially reduced price, a benefit we think they will appreciate. Cracker Barrel guests can get this membership for $14.99 rather than the usual $35.00 cost. This membership gives fans a chance to vote on these time- honored awards." "It is a tremendous honor to announce Cracker Barrel Old Country Store as the presenting sponsor of the Chuck Bednarik Award," said MFC Executive Director Mark Wolpert. "The sponsorship will allow us to build our presence nationwide and offer Cracker Barrel guests the opportunity to become actively involved in our organization and programs. Cracker Barrel has a tremendous presence in geographic locations where there is high interest in college football so in my mind it is a natural fit for them to engage in a sponsorship of this type. We look forward to engaging their guest base and building excitement as we enter the college football season."
