Maxwell Football Club Announces Week Fourteen Players of the Week

Each week during the 2022 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award
Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch lists.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Stetson Bennett – QB – Georgia

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after leading the Bulldogs past the #14 LSU Tigers in the SEC Championship game 50-30. The 5-11, 190-pound senior had a huge day while throwing 23-29 for 274 yards and four touchdowns. During the 2022 regular season and SEC Championship game, Bennett combined for almost 3500 yards in the air and tacking on twenty touchdowns. Bennett and the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs are the 2022 SEC Champions. They will be taking on the fourth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on December 31 st in the CFP Semifinal Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week –Jeremiah Trotter Jr. – LB – Clemson

Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. has named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following the Tiger’s ACC Championship win over North Carolina 39-10. The 6- 0, 230-pound sophomore linebacker had a big day in Charlotte having seven solo tackles, two assisted tackles, three tackles for loss, along with three sacks. Trotter Jr. had a standout season compiling eighty total tackles, a forced fumble and two interceptions with one of them being a pick six. Trotter Jr. and the tenth-ranked Clemson Tigers will be taking on the sixth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers in the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 3 rd in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Devon Achane– RB – Texas A&M

Texas A&M running back Devon Achane has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after leading the Aggies past the #5 LSU Tigers in College Station 38-23 on Saturday. The 5-9, 185-pond junior had a huge day while compiling 38 attempts on the ground, for 215 yards and two touchdowns. Achane has been a consistent rusher for the Aggies having no less than 60 yards on the ground per game since Week 2 of this season. Devon Achane, a star throughout the 2022 season for the Aggies, had 196 attempts for 1100 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Sydney Brown – S –Illinois

Illinois safety Sydney Brown was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following the Illini’s win over Northwestern 41-3. The 6-0, 205-pound safety had a career day tallying six tackles, two interceptions, a 39-yard interception return touchdown, and a 53-yard fumble return touchdown in Illinois’ 41-3 victory at Northwestern. Brown was the first player with 2+ interceptions, 1+ interception return touchdown, and 1+ fumble return touchdown in a single game since 2012 when Kenneth Acker (SMU) achieved the feat against Stephen F. Austin. The two interceptions for Brown take his season total to six, and he is tied for first in the nation for interceptions. Brown and the 8-4 Illini are awaiting their bowl placement after the Big Ten championship game this weekend.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Spencer Rattler– QB – South Carolina

South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after leading the Gamecocks to a huge win over the fifth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers Saturday in Columbia. In the 63-38 shootout, the 6-1, 215-pound junior went
30-37 on passes for 438 yards and 6 touchdown passes, while adding 16 rushing yards and 15 receiving yards. Rattler and the Gamecocks scoring 63 points are the most by an unranked team against an AP top-five opponent in the poll era. The Gamecocks travel to Death Valley this weekend to take on their in-state rival seventh-ranked Clemson.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Keion White – DL –Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech defensive lineman Keion White was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week after leading the Yellow Jackets past #13 North Carolina 21-17. The 6-
5, 286-pound senior defensive lineman scattered four solo tackles, three assisted tackles, along with three sacks in the upset win on Saturday. White has 7.5 sacks on the year which has him tied for 24 th in the country in sacks. The Yellow Jackets travel to Athens to take on the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – C.J. Stroud – QB – Ohio State

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after boosting the #2 Buckeyes to a 56-14 win over Indiana. The 6-3, 218-pound junior quarterback went 17-28 passes for 297 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Maxwell Award Semifinalist has put in great performances week in and week out throughout his junior season. Stroud and the Buckeyes remain at #2 in the AP Top 25 poll, as well as the CFP rankings for Week 12. The Buckeyes head to College Park to take on the University of Maryland this Saturday.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Harold Perkins Jr. – LB – LSU

LSU linebacker Harold Perkins was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week after leading the Tigers defense on the road past Arkansas 13-10. In a very defensive game between the Tigers and the Razorbacks, the 6-2, 220-pound linebacker scattered six solo tackles, two assisted tackles, along with four sacks, two forced fumbles, and a quarterback
hurry on a cold day in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Perkins and the Tigers move up to #6 in the AP Top 25 Poll, while remaining at #7 in the CFP poll for Week 12. Perkins and the Tigers will host to UAB this Saturday in Baton Rouge.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Tanner Mordecai – QB – SMU

SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after Saturday’s 77-63 win over the University of Houston. The 6-3, 214-pound quarterback from Waco, Texas went 28-37 for 379 passing yards with 9 TD, while adding another 54 yards and a touchdown on the ground. With the win against Houston, SMU is now 5-4 and one win away from bowl eligibility. Mordecai and the Mustangs head to Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida to take on the University of South Florida Bulls this Saturday.

Benarik Award Player of the Week – Jalen Carter – DL – Georgia

Georgia defensive lineman Jalen Carter was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Saturday’s 27-13 win over #1 Tennessee. The 6-3, 300-pound junior from Apopka, Florida added 4 tackles, a sack, and 2 forced fumbles to the terrorizing Bulldogs defense. Georgia continues to stay at the top of the AP Top 25 poll for Week 11. Carter and the Bulldogs look to keep their momentum going in their matchup in
Starkville, Mississippi this weekend against Mississippi State.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Drake Maye– QB – North Carolina

University of North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye has been named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week after rolling Pittsburgh 42-24 on Saturday. The 6-foot-4.5, 220-pound quarterback went 34-44 for 388 passing yards with 5 touchdowns, while adding 61 yards to the rushing game. Maye and the Tar Heels move up to #17 in the AP Top 25 poll after the big win this past weekend. The Tar Heels are on the road this weekend to take on the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – JT Tuimoloau – DE – Ohio State

Ohio State defensive end JT Tuimoloau was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Saturday’s 44-31 win over #13 Penn State. The 6-foot-4, 270-pound sophomore from Edgewood, Washington had a terrific day compiling 6 tackles, 2 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, along with 2 interceptions (one pick six). Ohio State remains in the #2 spot in this week’s AP Top 25 poll. Tuimoloau and the Buckeyes travel to Evanston, Illinois to take on the Northwestern Wildcats this Saturday.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Bo Nix – QB – Oregon

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix has been named the Maxwell Player of the Week after shining in Saturday’s 45-30 victory over UCLA. The 6-foot-2, 213-pound senior from Pinson, Alabama went 22-28, for 283 yards and 5 touchdowns, while adding 51 of his own rushing yards on the day. Saturday’s performance by Nix and the Ducks boosted them to number eight in this week’s AP Top 25 poll. The Ducks head to Berkeley, California this Saturday to take on the University of California Golden Bears.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Eli Ricks – DB – Alabama

Alabama defensive back Eli Ricks was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Saturday’s 30-6 win over Mississippi State. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior from Rancho Cucamonga, California had a tremendous performance compiling two tackles and only allowed one completion on the day. Ricks and the Crimson Tide stay at number six in this week’s AP Top 25 poll. Alabama heads into a bye week before heading to Death Valley to face LSU on November 5th .

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Jalin Hyatt – WR – Tennessee

Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt has been named the Maxwell Player of the Week after propelling the #6 Volunteers past #3 Alabama 52-49. The six-foot, 180-pound junior from Irmo, South Carolina had six receptions for 207 yards and five touchdowns on Saturday in Knoxville. The performance by Hyatt and the Volunteers boosted their ranking in the AP Top 25 poll to #3 for Week Eight. The Volunteers head into the new week looking forward to hosting UT-Martin on Saturday in Neyland Stadium.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Myles Murphy – DE – Clemson

Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Saturday’s 34-28 win over Florida State. The 6-5, 275-pound junior from Marietta, Georgia showed commendable efforts against the Seminoles compiling six tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Murphy and the fifth-ranked Tigers will host the fourteenth-ranked Syracuse Orange in Death Valley this Saturday.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – C.J. Stroud – QB – Ohio State

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after boosting the number three Buckeyes to a 49-20 win over Michigan State. The 6-foot-3, 218-pound junior quarterback went 21-26 passes for 361 yards and 6 touchdowns. The performance by Stroud and the Buckeyes boosted the team to number two in AP Top 25 rankings for Week 7. The Buckeyes head into a bye week before hosting Iowa on October 22nd.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Drake Thomas – LB – NC State

NC State linebacker Drake Thomas was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Saturday’s 19-17 win over Florida State. The junior linebacker out of Wake Forest, North Carolina had a big day for the Wolfpack totaling 7 solo tackles, 7 assisted tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2 PBU’s and 1 QBH. The #15 Wolfpack head to the Carrier Dome this Saturday to take on #18 Syracuse.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Dorian Thompson-Robinson – QB – UCLA

UCLA quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after propelling the Bruins to a big win over #15 Washington 40-32. The 6-1, 205-pound senior quarterback was the definition of a dual threat in this week’s action. Thompson-Robinson went 24-of-33 passes for 315 yds, and 3 touchdowns, while tacking on another 53 yards on the ground and another touchdown. Thompson-Robinson and the #18 Bruins look to keep their undefeated season alive as they host #11 Utah on Saturday.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Clark Phillips – DB – Utah

University of Utah defensive back Clark Phillips was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Saturday’s 42-16 win over Oregon State. The 5-10, 183-pound sophomore paved the way for the Utes recording three tackles, and three of Utah’s four total interceptions in the game, including one pick-six for 38 yards. Phillips is currently tied for first nationally with four interceptions on the season. Phillips and the #11 Utes look forward to a high-powered matchup on this road this Saturday at #18 UCLA.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Hendon Hooker– QB – Tennessee

University of Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker has been named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week after propelling the Volunteers to a big win over #20 Florida 38-33. The six-foot-four, 218-pound senior quarterback was the definition of a dual threat in this week’s action. Hooker went 22-of-28 passes for 349 yards. He has two touchdowns, while tacking on another 112 yards on the ground and another touchdown. Hooker became the first Tennessee quarterback to record a 300 yard passing/100 yard rushing game since Joshua Dobbs on October 10th, 2015 against Georgia. The Volunteers head into a bye week before heading to LSU on October 8th.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Ivan Pace Jr. – LB – Cincinnati

University of Cincinnati linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following the Bearcats’ 45-24 win over Indiana on Saturday.  The six foot, 235-pound senior linebacker paved the way for the Bearcats recording 15 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and three QB hurries. Pace has led Cincinnati in tackles each game this season and his 11.0 TFLs through four games lead the nation. He also ranks top five in tackles per game (11.5) and total sacks (4.5) for the Bearcats who are 3-1. Pace and the Bearcats head to Tulsa on Saturday to take on the Golden Hurricane.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Bo Nix – QB – Oregon

University of Oregon quarterback Bo Nix has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after propelling the Ducks to a big win over #12 BYU 41-20. The 6-2, 213-pound senior quarterback went 13-18 for 222 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, while also accounting for 3 touchdowns on the ground for the Ducks. Nix became the first Oregon QB with three rushing TDs and two passing TDs in a game since Marcus Mariota on Dec. 5, 2014. Nix and the Ducks look ahead to Saturday’s road matchup against the Washington State Cougars in Pullman.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Daiyan Henley – LB – Washington State

Washington State linebacker Daiyan Henley was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Saturday’s 38-7 win over Colorado State. The 6-2, 232-pound linebacker accounted for 13 tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. Henley is fourth in the Pac-12 in tackles, leads in sacks and tackles-for-loss, and is tied for lead in forced fumbles. Henley and the Cougars look ahead to a tough matchup with Oregon in Pullman.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Caleb Williams – QB – USC

USC quarterback Caleb Williams has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after leading the Trojans to a 41-28 win over the Stanford Cardinal. In game two of his sophomore campaign at USC, the 6-1, 215-pound quarterback went 20-27 for 341 passing yards with 4 TD. Williams’ performance helped the Trojans jump to #7 in this week’s AP Top 25 poll. Williams connected with his favorite target Jordan Addison for most of the day tallying 7 receptions for 182 yards and 2 TD’s. Williams on the Trojans win was quoted as saying, “all 11 guys on one page, everybody did his job,” which can be hoped for this weekend as the Trojans take on Fresno State this Saturday.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Drew Sanders – LB – Arkansas

University of Arkansas linebacker Drew Sanders was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Saturday’s 44-30 win over South Carolina. Sanders, the 6-5, 233-pound junior, recorded 11 tackles, 3.0 TFLs, 2.0 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and a 1 pass breakup to add immense amounts of pressure to the Gamecock offense. Behind Sanders’ performance, the Razorbacks ranked #10 in this week’s AP Top 25 poll. Coach Pittman commented on Sanders’ growth since he transferred in from Alabama this spring by saying, “If you see today versus when he first came in the spring, you’d think you had two totally different people,” which creates a lot of faith for the Razorback’s linebacker in the future. Arkansas looks ahead this Saturday to their matchup with Missouri State in Fayetteville.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Drake Maye – QB – North Carolina

University of North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after propelling the Tar Heels to a late game thriller win over Appalachian State 63-61. Entering his redshirt freshman season, the 6-4.5, 220-pound quarterback went 24-35 for 352 passing yards with 4 TD, while adding 12 carries on the ground for 76 yards and a touchdown. In an article published by the Charlotte Observer, Coach Mack Brown was quoted as saying, ““When you’ve got a great quarterback, you’ve got a chance,” Brown said. “And Drake is a great quarterback, who will only get better,” and sure enough, he showed up to play on Saturday in Boone.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Joey Porter – DB – Penn State

Penn State defensive back Joey Porter was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Thursday’s win over Purdue. The 6’2 198-pound redshirt junior starred in the week 1 matchup with 8 solo tackles, a career-high 6 pass breakups, and his first career fumble recovery. Porter’s six pass breakups set a school record and tied a Big Ten record for the most pass breakups in a single game. The six pass breakups are tied for the most in a single game for an FBS player since Houston’s William Jackson III had seven against Temple in 2015.

 Maxwell Award Player of the Week – Mike Wright – QB – Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt quarterback Mike Wright has been named Maxwell Award Player of the Week after leading the Commodores to a 63-10 win over Hawaii. Entering his junior season, the 6-4, 195-pound dual threat had a great opening game. Wright went 13-of-21 for 146 yards and 2 TDs, while also adding 13 carries on the ground for 163 yards and 2 more touchdowns. In a press conference from 247Sports, head coach Clark Lea sounded off on the performance by saying, “Mike was able to show the things that make him a unique competitor and a unique player” and Wright will be a key piece of the Commodore offensive moving forward.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week – Jartavius Martin – DB – Illinois

Illinois cornerback Jartavius Martin was named the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week following Saturday’s win over Wyoming. Martin starred in the opener while totaling a team-high 7 tackles, with 5 of them being solo tackles, and tacking on 3 pass breakups against the Cowboys. Martin and the Illini created havoc on the defensive side of the ball by not allowing a touchdown.
